Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw leaves game against Diamondbacks due to toe injury

PHOENIX (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw withdrew from Friday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks because of pain in his left big toe.

Kershaw allowed two runs in the first inning and was taken out of the game with no outs in the second inning after allowing a home run to Corbin Carroll early in the inning.

Coach of Los Angeles Dave Roberts immediately came out of the dugout with a trainer after Carroll's 18th home run flew just wide of the right foul post, taking the three-time NL Cy Young Award winner out of the game.

Carroll's home run reduced Los Angeles' lead to 5-3.

The Dodgers were four games ahead of the Diamondbacks in the NL West before Friday's game.

Kershaw had started six games after spending the first four months of the season on the injured list while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He entered Friday's game 2-2 with a 3.72 ERA.

The Dodgers have been hit hard by pitcher injuries this season; Walker Buehler, Brusdar Graterol and Yoshinobu Yamamoto were among the players who missed some time.
