Four members of the Abilene Christian football team's travel party were injured Saturday in a car crash involving the team bus following a 52-51 overtime loss to Texas Tech.

“Four people suffered minor injuries – a student-athlete, two coaches and the bus driver,” the school said. said in a statement“All four were transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock. We are grateful to Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt, their team physician Dr. Michael Phy, and all first responders for their help and care.”

The accident occurred around 11:45 p.m. CT as the team was traveling from Lubbock to Abilene.

KTAB's Manny Diaz reported that 19-year-old Parker Young was arrested and charged with drunken driving after he allegedly disregarded officers' traffic orders at the intersection of Marsha Sharp Freeway and University Avenue and collided with the Abilene Christian University team bus.

The bus then crashed into another vehicle.

The incident followed a wild game between Texas Tech and Abilene Christian in which the Wildcats rallied from a 32-14 deficit in the second quarter to force overtime. Texas Tech scored a touchdown on its first possession of the overtime period and kicked the extra point, and Abilene Christian followed with another touchdown.

But the Wildcats attempted a potentially game-deciding two-point conversion and failed, allowing Texas Tech to take the win.

Still, it was an impressive performance from Abilene Christian, which plays at FCS level in the United Athletic Conference and was considered a huge underdog against the Red Raiders from the Big 12.
