Nebraska Cornhuskers rival AD is under investigation for ‘inappropriate relationship’

What exactly has been going on in the Big Ten in recent years? Earlier this week another one The Nebraska Cornhuskers' rival school announced that it had run into serious legal trouble.

This time, the Big Ten rival is Rutgers, which fired its athletic director rather abruptly in early August. Perhaps the biggest sign that something was wrong was that it didn't seem like many Scarlet Knights fans were particularly surprised.

Shortly after Pat Hobbs was dismissed from office, Reports began to circulate that the school had launched an investigation into a possible “inappropriate, consensual relationship.” The investigation is said to have been the trigger for Hobbs' resignation.

Current New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy confirmed an “internal investigation” on Friday. The state government is involved because Rutgers, like the Nebraska Cornhuskers, is a public school and reports directly to Murphy and the legislature.

According to NJ Advance Mediathere are also complaints within the gymnastics program. Governor Murphy said the investigation came from “the highest levels” of the Rutgers administration.

Hobbs himself has cited health issues as the reason for his resignation as athletic director of the rival Nebraska Cornhuskers. In his August 16 announcement, Hobbs sent a letter outlining his decision to resign, citing a recent appointment with his cardiologist as a factor in the decision.

The departure is especially significant because Hobbs played a key role in Rutgers becoming a rival of the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the first place, as he led the Scarlet Knights' move to the Big Ten.
