Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks prediction, odds and likely pitchers for Sunday, September 1 (

Both the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers have a good chance of making the playoffs this season, but it is the Dodgers who have a massive six-game lead in the NL West standings.

After participating in the 2023 World Series, Arizona could once again secure a wild card spot this season, but can it narrow Los Angeles' lead in the division?

The Dodgers have won two games in a row to begin this four-game series, but the D-backs have one of their most promising young pitchers on the mound Sunday afternoon in Brandon Pfaadt.

Here's a breakdown of the odds, likely pitchers, and my prediction for Sunday's NL West clash.

In total

Los Angeles Dodgers

Mookie Betts: Before he was injured early in the season, Betts was a candidate for MVP honors. He has a .297/.390/.490 batting average this season with 14 home runs and 55 runs batted in. He has a hit in six of his last seven games, including a home run in Saturday's win.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Brandon Pfaadt: Before August, Pfaadt was having a solid season, posting a 3.92 ERA in 21 starts. Unfortunately, he got shaken up in August, dropping his ERA for the season to 4.31. Somehow, the D-Backs still won four of those games. He allowed two earned runs in six innings in a win over the Dodgers in May.

This game promises to be a goal-rich affair.

Let's start with the D-backs team, as Pfaadt has struggled lately, posting a 6.04 ERA in August and allowing 36 hits in 28.1 innings.

Yes, Arizona has won four of Pfaadt's five starts, but overall the team has also scored more than ten runs four times and scored at least nine runs in each of those games.

There's a reason the D-Backs are hitting the OVER at 58.5 percent this season, as they rank first in runs per game but also have the fifth-worst ERA in all of baseball.

However, this could pose a small problem against the Dodgers offense, which is also an OVER machine and achieved a hit rate of 54.1 percent this season.

Young Justin Wrobleski is one of Los Angeles' stars and has a 4.68 ERA, allowing at least four runs in three of his five starts. The left-hander faces a tough opponent against Arizona, which ranks second in the league in OPS against left-handed pitchers.

I expect a lot of running on both sides on Sunday afternoon.

Tip: OVER 9.5 (+102)
