Lando Norris (3rd): Crash with Oscar Piastri avoided / Formula 1

Third place for Lando Norris at the Italian GP in Monza. The Verstappen hunter has a long face. In the duel with his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, important points were lost again.

Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale in Monza: Lando Norris stands on an F1 winner's podium for the 23rd time, but his whole body language says – on the wrong step.

Coming from pole position, in the supposedly fastest car in the field, Norris should have won this Grand Prix. Norris fans and cool calculators will also argue: As Max Verstappen's most promising hunter, McLaren should have finally put their money on Norris, but Oscar Piastri was once again given free rein, and the young Australian cheekily took advantage of this to throw himself at Norris after the start in turn 4, pass him and ultimately finish second behind winner Charles Leclerc. Ahead of Norris.

Lando's face says it all: he is not at all happy with the way the race went here in Monza. He expressed himself accordingly after the exciting Italian GP.

When asked whether Lando was surprised by Piastri's attack in turn 4, Norris replied with irony. “Of course, because he passed me. And if I had braked just a meter later, there would have been a crash. Maybe we should take another look at that.”

Best regards to team leader Andrea Stella.

Norris continued: “I have to admit without envy – Ferrari had the better race today, especially with Charles Leclerc. He drove a really first-class Grand Prix, hats off to him too.”

Hand on heart: Did McLaren also consider a one-stopper? Lando has to smile gently now: “The whole race! But that approach would not have been possible for us because the tires were grainy more than expected.”

“Today, a win was ultimately not possible. We knew before the race that we had to watch out for Ferrari. Of course, I'm not happy with McLaren's defeat. But they did a better job today and they probably had the better car.”

What does Lando say about the fact that he once again missed out on important points in the battle against Verstappen? Lando is sweet and sour: “Piastri wants to finish in the best possible position, and he did that by attacking me.” If he can pull something like that off, then he deserves to finish ahead of me.”
