Three children and woman critically injured

Unterbreizbach – In Unterbreizbach (Wartburgkreis), a family was seriously injured during an outing on Sunday afternoon.

According to police reports, a 70-year-old man was driving a tractor with a trailer on a forest path. On board were nine children aged between four and 13 and a 45-year-old woman.

On a sloping, gravelled forest area “An der Drift” in the district of Sünna, the vehicle combination began to slide and the trailer broke away.

The pensioner then lost control and the tractor and trailer overturned. Three children and the 45-year-old woman were critically injured in the accident. Three of the four accident victims were flown to nearby hospitals by rescue helicopter.

Three other children and the 70-year-old suffered serious injuries. Three other children were slightly injured. They were all taken to hospitals in the region by ambulance.

In addition to police, Fire department and rescue services, as well as the disaster control team, were deployed at the scene of the accident. The recovery of the tractor is currently still ongoing.
