Jerrick Ahanmisi shows off his shooting skills in victory against Magnolia

MANILA, Philippines – The hard work of Magnolia's Jerrick Ahanmisi is starting to pay off for the Hotshots in Group A of the PBA Governors' Cup.

On Sunday, Ahanmisi showed off the fruits of his labor, helping Magnolia to a 124-103 win over Terrafirma at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

“The efficiency comes from my daily practice when I practice early and stay afterward to improve my shots,” Ahanmisi said after helping the Hotshots improve their record to 2-2.

“My confidence comes from my coaches and teammates telling me to keep shooting. Even if I miss, they tell me to focus on the next shot. So the confidence comes from my work and also from my teammates.”

Ahanmisi showed his brilliance as a shooter with 24 points, two steals and two assists.

The Adamson product shot 58.3 percent from the four-point line, the best percentage of any local in the import-dominated league. He also sank two baskets from the three-point line.

Coach Chito Victolero, however, was not really surprised when Ahanmisi came off the field so hot.

“It's all about hard work. In fact, we're the ones who sometimes stop him,” Victolero said jokingly.

“Early in the morning he shoots and after training he shoots again, so we want him to rest and have energy for the game, but we can't stop him. Whatever extra he does in training, it just comes out,” added the top coach.

Ahanmisi and the Hotshots will look to maintain their lead in Group A on Wednesday when they face up-and-coming Northport Batang Pier.
