Crew members report on the gruesome final moments on Mike Lynch's yacht off Sicily

Last month, a tragic incident occurred when British tech giant Mike Lynch's yacht sank in a storm off Sicily, resulting in the deaths of Mike, his daughter and five other people.

According to the Italian news agency AnsaMatthew Griffiths, who was on watch during the disaster, describes the yacht's horrific final moments before it sank.

According to ReutersHe told investigators that the crew did everything they could to rescue everyone on the yacht.

Griffiths said: “I woke the captain when the wind reached 20 knots (23 mph/37 km/h). He gave the order to wake everyone else.”

He continued: “The ship tilted and we were thrown into the water. Then we managed to get up again and tried to save as many as we could.”

He said of passenger Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old child: “We walked on the walls (of the boat). We rescued whoever we could. Cutfield also rescued the little girl and her mother.”

Griffiths, the boat's captain James Cutfield and the ship's engineer Tim Parker Eaton are currently under investigation.

In addition, Cutfield remained silent during questioning by prosecutors on Tuesday, his lawyers said, adding that he was “exhausted” and needed more time to prepare his defense.

Meanwhile, Parker Eaton explained that when the storm came, all doors and hatches were closed except for one leading to the engine room.

He stated that this door was on the opposite side of the slope and could not have been the cause of the sinking.

There were 15 survivors in total; the wreck has not yet been recovered from the sea.
