Man sentenced to 20 years in prison in POCSO case

The Special Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) in Alappuzha on Saturday sentenced a 29-year-old man to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor girl.

The convict was identified as Mohammed Ashik of Kottarakara in Kollam. Judge Roy Varghese sentenced the convict to pay a fine of Rs 50,000.

The case was registered at Alappuzha South police station last year. The charge was that Mohammed befriended the 16-year-old girl through social media and attacked her twice in March 2023.

The prosecution was represented by Special Public Prosecutor S. Seema. The case was investigated by a team led by Circle Inspector S. Arun of the South Police Station.
