Knife attack in Aschaffenburg: Attack at Kapuzinerplatz

Aschaffenburg- A 26-year-old man stabbed two people he apparently knew with a knife in Aschaffenburg on Friday evening.

The two Afghan victims (18 and 21 years old) sustained injuries to their arms and face in the attack at Kapuzinerplatz at around 6:30 p.m., police and prosecutors announced on Saturday. After receiving outpatient treatment, the men have now been able to leave the hospital.

A witness had observed the crime and alerted the emergency services. The suspected perpetrator, also an Afghan, was arrested after a short manhunt at “Am Floßhafen”. “Thanks to his conspicuous clothing – a caftan – and the witness's description, he was quickly located,” the police explained.

An investigating judge has now issued an arrest warrant for attempted murder.

Initial investigations indicate that there was a previous personal relationship between the men, authorities said.

The police carried out extensive forensic investigations at the crime scene and along the escape route. A police dog also searched for the discarded murder weapon.

The exact background to the crime and the motivation of the accused are still unclear. The investigation into the case is ongoing. The investigators are hoping for further clues to finally resolve the case.
