Tragic 911 call reveals Arizona teenager's final words after burglar broke into her apartment and shot her

The final words of a teenager who was shot dead in her Arizona apartment two years ago have been released – as her parents step up their search for her killer.

Rachel Hansen was 19 years old and engaged when the suspect broke into her home and shot her in the early morning hours of June 4, 2022.

Now her final words have been released in a redacted police report that has been given to the Arizona Family in an effort to bring the case back into the spotlight and track down the shooter.

“I was shot. Someone broke in and shot me,” Rachel told a 911 caller in her final moments as she bled to death from a single gunshot wound.

“Please hurry, please hurry,” she said. “I'm bleeding, I'm bleeding.”

A switchboard operator urged Rachel to stay on the line and asked, “Do you have a clean cloth here that you can use to apply pressure? Is there someone there with you?”

The teenager replied that she was alone and the shooter had left.

“Do you have any clothing, shirt, or towel handy that you can use?” asks the dispatcher, to which the teenager replies “No.”

“Is there nothing near you? Rachel, you need to talk to me, okay?” said the dispatcher.

“I can’t,” the teenager said before succumbing to her injuries.

Police and firefighters can be heard frantically trying to locate Rachel's address before they arrive about four and a half minutes later.

Gilbert Police responded to the call at 2 a.m. on June 4, 2022, from Rachel's apartment in a gated complex on the outskirts of southeast Phoenix.

The department said in a press release at the time that she suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at Chandler Regional Medical Center.

Rachel's heartbroken family has been waiting for answers ever since.

On the second anniversary of her murder this year, they launched a fundraiser to take matters into their own hands and hire a private investigator.

“Rachel did not deserve what happened to her and her family and friends now feel helpless and have limited options,” the fundraiser says.

“We are concerned that the Gilbert Police Department has exhausted all of its resources as the handover to Silent Witness has been fruitless.”

Silent Witness is also offering a reward of up to $7,000 to anyone with information about the murder.

The teenager's father, Todd Hansen, also said he distributed 500 fliers about his daughter's murder in the hope that someone would come forward with information.

“Somehow, someone, somewhere knows something about the fate of my sweet daughter Rachel Hansen,” he wrote on Facebook on August 25.

“Perhaps it would help us if we could bring closure to the question of how and why she died,” he added in a recent interview with KNXV.

“The murder of a 19-year-old girl in the town of Gilbert was unprecedented.”

“It feels like it happened yesterday,” added Rachel’s mother, Kim Hansen.

“It's really unbelievable because it feels like two years have passed and we should have something, but we have nothing.”

In another interview with Arizona Family, Kim added that her daughter just got engaged and is looking forward to a happy future.

“She was so excited. They were both so excited. Young love, and they were just starting their lives,” she said.

Rachel was adopted at the age of six and was an enthusiastic horse trainer who wanted to turn her passion into a career.

On the anniversary of Rachel's death this year, Gilbert Police released a statement to Law & Crime.

“As the unfortunate murder of Rachel Hansen approaches two years ago, this case remains a top priority for the Gilbert Police Department,” the agency said.

“We know how difficult lengthy investigations can be for the families and friends of the victims, as well as for our community.

“We would like to stress that this is an extremely sensitive case and we must be careful that any information shared does not jeopardise our investigation or our tireless efforts to bring justice to Rachel and her family.”
