Woman killed, 4 others injured in fresh violence in Manipur

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 2pm near the border between Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts when gunfire was heard from the nearby hills. In Imphal West, the Meitei community dominates, while in Kangpokpi, the Kuki are the majority.

The woman was hit on the head and the daughter on the right arm. They were taken to hospitals. The three others were also taken to hospitals in Imphal, two of them to the private Raj Medicity Hospital.

Police and security forces were immediately dispatched to the scene following the incident and the shooting continued until 6:00 p.m. at the time of writing.

A house was damaged when a bomb dropped by a drone was dropped. No one was injured. The incident is said to have taken place near a Border Security Force (BSF) station. A police commando, who was part of the reinforcement force, was hit by a shrapnel from a bomb dropped by a drone.

The incident came a day after Kuki-Zo groups staged protest rallies against Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in the Kuki-Zo-dominated districts of Kangpokpi and Churachandpur on Saturday.
