Luxury yacht drama: Sailor had to wake the captain

According to media reports, in the fall of the luxury yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily in mid-August, the sailor on watch on the night of the accident raised the alarm and woke up the 51-year-old captain.

He then took command and gave the order to wake those sleeping inside the ship, the sailor said, according to reports from the Italian news agency Ansa on Sunday.

The authorities are currently investigating the 51-year-olds, as well as the sailors and an engineer. According to the newspaper “Corriere della Sera”, the captain confirmed that he had been woken up by his sailor. Because he “didn't like the situation”, he gave the order to wake up the other ship's passengers, the 51-year-old said.

Tilted to the side

The ship then suddenly tipped over on its side and several crew members fell overboard. “We managed to get back on board and tried to form a human chain to rescue those who made it to the deck,” the sailor was quoted as saying. The captain was at the forefront and helped everyone.
