Militant attack in Imphal West district of Manipur leaves one dead and four injured

In a tragic incident in Imphal West district of Manipur on Sunday, a woman was killed and four others injured in a gun and bomb attack by suspected militants, police reports said.

Authorities said the militants fired indiscriminately from high positions into the lower valley areas of Koutruk and Kadangband. The attack left 31-year-old Ngangbam Surbala Devi dead and her eight-year-old daughter, and a policeman named N. Robert, among others, injured. The unexpected attack sparked widespread panic and caused many residents, including women, children and the elderly, to flee for safety.

The body of the deceased has been sent to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for postmortem, while Devi's daughter and Officer Robert are undergoing treatment there. Two other injured persons are currently recovering at the Raj Medicity. Security forces have been deployed to the area to restore stability.
