“TV total” goes under with XXL edition and reaches new low

For three years now, “TV total” has been running regularly again on ProSieben, after the comedy format had been shut down for almost six years. Sebastian Pufpaff took over the moderation from Stefan Raab, under whom “TV total” was the station's biggest comedy show with several episodes per week.

“TV total” no longer has this status, although ProSieben plans to show two episodes of the show per week in the winter, which will also be hosted by Pufpaff. “TV total” is getting a sibling, of course with the charm, wit and humor of “TV total”. The announcement took place in the week in which ProSieben broadcast the first episode of “TV total XXL” – which now turns out to be a bad omen for the plans.

The full-length “TV total” show was recorded in Cologne's Lanxess Arena and was broadcast yesterday Saturday from 8:15 p.m. to 11:05 p.m. ProSieben had announced the show as “longer, louder, crazier” and music acts such as Roland Kaiser and Electric Callboy were there.

But as “DWDL” reports, ProSieben only reached 580,000 viewers with the first XXL edition of “TV total”. As a result, “TV total” has never had fewer episodes, including the regular Wednesday editions.

Is RTL to blame for ProSieben’s low point?

Of course, that cannot be the aim given the effort involved. According to “DWDL”, the 670,000 viewers last Wednesday already represents a low point for the show since its revival.

All of this can only be partially attributed to the competing program. Yes, RTL showed the jungle camp every evening this week, but the summer season does not come anywhere close to the reach of the winter edition. On Saturday, 2.25 million people watched “IBES,” four times as many as watched “TV total.” “Die große Maus-Show” also received good reviews on ARD.

The surprise winner on the warm summer evening was a feature film on ZDF: “In Truth – Between Law and Justice” reached 4.16 million people.
