Chelsea vs Crystal Palace LIVE! Premier League match stream, latest team news, lineups, TV, prediction today

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace – LIVE!

Chelsea host Crystal Palace in the Premier League today. The Blues have endured another chaotic week on the pitch, beating Wolves 6-2 last weekend thanks to a hat-trick from Noni Madueke before narrowly edging out Swiss underdogs in the Europa Conference League. With consistency proving to be an issue last season, Enzo Maresca will need to get his team back on track.

Palace, on the other hand, have undoubtedly been unlucky in their first two games, losing both. However, they have picked up momentum in the Carabao Cup earlier this week and have managed to keep hold of key defender Marc Guehi, giving them hope for the season ahead.

Both teams need to win for very different reasons, even at this early stage of the season. Chelsea need some consistency, while Palace could use a little pick-me-up after a difficult start to the season. Follow all the action in Standard Sport's dedicated match blog! Crystal Palace have signed Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah to complete a busy deadline day at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles secured a loan deal for Chalobah – which does not include an option for a permanent transfer – and also completed deals for Maxence Lacroix for £17 million, Eddie Nketiah for £30 million and a loan deal for goalkeeper Matt Turner.

Why Jadon Sancho will not make his debut for Chelsea against Crystal Palace today

11:05 , Jonathan Gorrie

Jadon Sancho will not make his Chelsea debut today.

Deadline day in the summer transfer window produced more drama than we have seen for some time, with the Blues shipping Raheem Sterling to Arsenal on loan and signing Sancho on loan, who is set to join next summer for around £25 million.

Work on both teams continued late into the evening and even past the 11pm deadline, so contract paperwork still needed to be completed. Sterling's departure was confirmed at around 2am on Friday night until Saturday morning, and Sancho's arrival was not confirmed until 7.30pm on Saturday night.

To be ineligible to play in today's match against Crystal Palace, Sancho would have had to be registered as a Chelsea player by 12 noon on Friday, which was clearly impossible.

Palace, on the other hand, is struggling with a short-term injury crisis in defence. New signing Chadi Riad had to be substituted against Norwich, leaving only Chris Richards, Marc Guehi and Rob Holding as recognised centre-backs.

Guehi remains at the club after Newcastle's failed transfer attempt, but newcomers Trevoh Chalobah and Maxence Lacroix in defence are not yet ready to play – as are Eddie Nketiah and Matt Turner, who were also signed on the deadline day. Matheus Franca is still out injured.

News from Chelsea vs Crystal Palace today

Chelsea will again be without Reece James and Romeo Lavia in today's Premier League London derby against Crystal Palace, but have no new injury concerns.

Blues captain James has not played this season after re-injuring a thigh injury during pre-season, and coach Enzo Maresca said ahead of Thursday night's surprise 2-1 defeat to Servette in the second leg of the Conference League play-offs – for which he was originally named in the squad – that he was not expected back until after the upcoming international break.

The same goes for Romeo Lavia, who has been plagued by injury problems since joining Chelsea from Southampton for £58 million last summer and made just one appearance in his debut season.

The Belgian midfielder has impressed in pre-season, starting on Matchday 1 of the Premier League campaign against Manchester City before coming on as a late substitute in the first leg win over Servette, but he is now sidelined again with a thigh injury.

Moises Caicedo has been nursing an injury of late but came on as a substitute in Switzerland on Thursday after starting in last weekend's 6-2 win over Wolves, while new signing Joao Felix will return to the team after scoring on his second Chelsea debut at Molineux before again being ruled out for the game against Servette.

Jadon Sancho was apparently not registered in time for the game against Palace after being loaned from Manchester United using a contract sheet shortly after Friday's transfer deadline, and the trip to Bournemouth on September 14 is instead likely to be his first game.

Neither Malo Gusto nor Pedro Neto played against Servette, but neither is believed to be injured, and it is difficult to imagine Maresca wanting to make too many changes to a team that scored six goals against Wolves earlier in his reign – especially given the disappointing performance at Servette that made qualifying for the Conference League proper more nerve-wracking than it should have been.

The only change is likely to be in attack: Mykhailo Mudryk was substituted after 45 minutes against Wolves, and Maresca admitted afterwards that he was not satisfied with the Ukrainian's performance and demanded more quality.

Neto replaced Mudryk – who was back in the starting line-up on Thursday – against his former club, providing a last-minute assist for Felix. If fully fit, he could also start against Palace. However, Felix is also an option, as is Christopher Nkunku, who showed his starting potential by scoring in both games against Servette.

Robert Sanchez is likely to return to goal at the expense of Filip Jorgensen, while Gusto – assuming he is fully fit himself – will return to defence along with Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella, while Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Renato Veiga will be out again.

Caicedo is expected to return for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, while Enzo Fernandez – who captained Chelsea in James' absence – was also in the starting line-up against Servette.

Nkunku, Mudryk and Marc Guiu are likely to make way in attack and striker Cole Palmer returns alongside Noni Madueke after the duo dismantled Wolves with three assists and three goals respectively, leading to the latter's first call-up to the England senior team.
