Prayers for two men seriously injured in horror farm accident in Limerick

At masses in Limerick on Sunday, prayers were said for the recovery of two men who suffered “serious injuries” in a farm accident on Saturday.

It is believed that the men, aged between 60 and 50, fell while working on a shed on a farm in Ardagh.

A Garda spokesman said gardaí and emergency services responded to an industrial accident at a company premises in Ardagh, Co Limerick on Saturday 31 August.

“The alarm was raised at around 1.30pm. Two men were taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of their injuries, which are currently considered serious.

“The Health and Safety Authority has been notified,” the Garda spokesman said.

The men were taken to Cork University Hospital by rescue helicopter. Firefighters from Newcastle West were also on site and assisted the paramedics.

Both men are highly respected in the community of Ardagh.

Canon Michael Noonan, who lives in the village, said prayers for their recovery would be said at Sunday morning Mass. He described them as “two pillars of the community” and very involved in the area.

“I know them both very well. They are very well respected, highly regarded and very involved in the local community. We are thinking of them and praying for them,” said Canon Noonan, adding that they will continue to pray for the recovery of the two injured men.

Both men are heavily involved with St. Kieran's GAA Club. The club's County Intermediate Hurling Championship match against Murroe Boher GAA this Sunday has been postponed and will take place at a later date.
