Man's fatal jump from a truck leads to tragic accident in Kanchanaburi

A 28-year-old Manheavily intoxicated after consuming white alcohol, jumped from the back of a pickup truck He was traveling with his mother and tragically died when a following car could not brake in time and ran over his head.

Police in Sai Yok District received a report of a fatal accident on Highway 323, Kanchanaburi-Thong Pha Phum Road at around 8.20pm yesterday, August 31. The incident occurred near kilometer marker 152 in Ban Thung Kang Yang, Sai Yok, Kanchanaburi. Officers rushed to the scene along with rescue workers and a doctor on duty from Somdej Phra Piyamaharaj Rommani Hospital.

The scene of the accident was a dark, two-lane road with no street lighting. The victim, 28-year-old Chokchai, was found lying on the road with his body twisted and his head badly crushed.

There was a pool of blood around his body. Witnesses reported that he had been drinking heavily and was sitting with his mother in the back of a pickup truck when he suddenly jumped out. A Nissan following behind him could not stop in time and ran over his head, causing him to die instantly in front of his mother.

The driver of the Nissan was in shock and could not give a statement to the police as he was crying uncontrollably. A friend of the driver said they were travelling towards Thong Pha Phum when the accident happened. The driver tried to swerve but was unable to prevent Chokchai from running over him.

“We were driving along a dark road when the car in front of us suddenly crossed into the oncoming lane. My friend tried to follow him but couldn't prevent him from crashing into something. When we stopped to look, we realized it was Chokchai's head,” said the driver's friend.

Fatal accident

A friend of Chokchai, identified only as A, said they both worked at the same company in Nakhon Pathom and were planning to visit their hometown of Thong Pha Phum. Before the trip, Chokchai had been drinking heavily at home.

When they reached the accident site, A heard Chokchai's mother screaming and banging on the bed of the truck. A initially thought she had to go to the toilet and stopped the vehicle. When she got out, A found Chokchai's mother in tears and said that Chokchai had jumped out of the truck.

“I thought she had to go to the toilet, but when I came out she was crying and said Chokchai had jumped out. We turned around and found him already run over,” said A.

Chokchai's mother added that there was no argument between them during the trip. Chokchai appeared to be very drunk and suddenly stood up and jumped out of the truck. Despite her attempts to grab his hand and shout warnings, he fell onto the road. The first car managed to avoid him, but the following Nissan could not, KhaoSod reported.

Police initially suspect that Chokchai may have been under the influence of alcohol and had to relieve himself, but then decided to jump out of the truck instead of asking to stop. His drunken state likely led to the fatal misstep that resulted in the tragic accident.
