Eddie Cochran was born Ray Edward Cochran on October 3, 1938 in Albert Lea, Minnesota and quickly began taking music lessons and later learned to play the guitar.

In 1952, his family moved to Bell Gardens, California, near Los Angeles, and formed a band with some friends.
