Seven dead and dozens injured in bus rollover in Mississippi

Mississippi [US]August 31 (ANI): Seven people were killed and dozens more injured when a public bus skidded off a highway east of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and overturned, CNN reported, citing authorities.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said those killed in the crash on westbound Interstate 20 included siblings ages 6 and 16.

Up to 37 passengers were taken to hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson with unknown injuries, CNN reported, citing the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

The highway police said the 2018 Volvo bus overturned near Bovina.

“It's always a tragedy when people are injured or killed, but when you get to a situation like this where there are multiple deaths and injuries, it's even worse,” Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.

According to the highway police, six passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while the seventh person died in hospital.

Officials said an investigation into the accident has been launched. Tow truck driver Keith Allison said the bus ended up in a ditch and many passengers were rescued from the bus, CNN reported, citing partner station WAPT. (ANI)
