Divers find missing German dead in the Mediterranean- DerWesten.de

It was supposed to be a dream couple's holiday on Crete. But one man now has to return to Germany alone because his wife (†65) lost her life on the Greek holiday island.

On Friday (30 August) the husband desperately asked the Greek authorities for help, as there had been no trace of the 65-year-old since midday. One day later, sad certainty prevailed.

Holiday on Crete: Mystery surrounding cause of death

The police and coast guard reacted immediately when the man reported his suspicions. In his report, he said that his wife might have run towards the sea to go swimming. Numerous emergency services then searched for the missing 65-year-old. However, they were unable to find the German woman alive.

On Saturday, the coast guard announced that the lifeless body of the 65-year-old had been discovered by a diver between the seaside resorts of Prassonissi and Triopetra. Her body was recovered and then taken by boat to the port of Agia Galini.

Extreme heat claims lives

An autopsy will now clarify the circumstances under which the 65-year-old died. She is not the first tourist to lose her life on one of the popular Greek holiday islands this summer. At least eight foreign visitors have suffered a similar fate in recent months.
