Omaha sports teams express condolences on death of Gaudreau brothers

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – The Omaha Supernovas and Omaha Lancers extend their condolences to the Gaudreau family after Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were killed in a collision with a drunk driver.

Johnny, 31, was a winger for the Calgary Flames and played 10 full seasons in the NHL. Matthew, 29, played for the Omaha Lancers from 2011 to 2013.

Jason Derulo, co-owner of the Omaha Supernovas, Omaha's professional volleyball team, issued a statement Saturday offering condolences to the Gaudreau family.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau,” Derulo said. “On behalf of the Omaha Supernovas, I extend our deepest condolences to the Gaudreau family during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Omaha Lancers, one of Matthews' former teams, also issued a statement.

“During his time in Omaha, Matthew made a tremendous impact on the community,” the statement said. “Fans were impressed when they saw Matthew on the ice. Matthew and Johnny's skills and talent helped them become pioneers in the USHL and help the next generation of hockey players get better.”
