Six MK party members killed, ten injured in taxi fire

The accident occurred at 11am on Saturday morning on the way to KwaDakw'udunuse to attend a celebration.

The uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK Party) has announced the tragic deaths of six of its members who were involved in a taxi accident in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

According to spokesman Nhlamulo Ndhlela, the taxi they were travelling in caught fire and they were trapped inside.

The accident occurred at 11am on Saturday as they were travelling to KwaDakw'udunuse to attend a celebration.

There were ten other injured people who were taken to hospital for medical treatment and further monitoring.

“While we can never fully measure the pain caused by such bereavement, we as party leaders wish to express our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the relatives and assure their families that we will stand by them in these difficult times,” Ndhlela said.

“Umkhonto wegwala ufela etsheni, however, our members were not cowards, they died in their boots on the front lines in the struggle for the economic emancipation of our people.

“As the uMkhonto weSizwe party, we pay tribute to their bravery and will take up the spear and continue the fight. May their revolutionary souls find solace and rest in peace as we wish our injured comrades a speedy recovery.”

Limpopo on high alert

Meanwhile, Limpopo is on high alert as the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) holds its first conference in four years in Moria City outside Polokwane in Limpopo.

The conference began on Friday, August 30th and ends on Sunday, September 1st, 2024.

“Against this background, we urge all citizens attending these gatherings to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety on the roads,” said Tidimalo Chuene, spokesperson for the Limpopo Department of Transport and Public Safety.

“We recommend that you contact our nearest transport stations to check your buses before travelling.

Chuene said police officers would be deployed on all major provincial roads to regulate traffic flow in Limpopo and ensure compliance with road safety regulations.

The department advises drivers to plan their journeys in advance, rest when tired and pay attention to other road users.

“Our message is clear: follow the traffic rules to arrive alive,” Chuene said.

“We are committed to the safety of all road users. We will do everything in our power to prevent accidents and deaths on our roads.”
