Mother and chef both die days after separate attacks at Notting Hill Carnival | UK news

Two people who were stabbed in separate attacks, Last weekend’s Notting Hill Carnival is over.

Cher Maximen, 32, died this morning after being stabbed at the London Carnival at around 6pm on Sunday 25 August.

She was taken to hospital after receiving emergency medical treatment at the scene from police officers.

And last Monday night, 41-year-old Mussie Imnetu was found unconscious with a head injury outside a restaurant in Queensway. He died of his injuries in hospital on Friday, the Met said today.

A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder of Cher.

Shakiel Thibou appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and is due to appear next at the Old Bailey on September 25.

He was also accused of possessing a knife in a public place and disturbing public order.

After Cher's death, the charges are being reviewed by police and prosecutors.

The court heard she was attacked when she tried to intervene in a fight in the crowd.

She suffered serious injuries, including a collapsed lung, and it was feared that both her legs would have to be amputated.

Cher attended the carnival’s “Family Day” with her three-year-old daughter and other family members and friends.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila said: “My thoughts are with Cher’s family as they come to terms with this terrible loss.

“They are supported by specialist officials and we will ensure that this support continues.”

“Cher was at the carnival with her young child. We have been in close contact with our partners in local authorities and Cher's family since shortly after this incident to ensure that the child is safe and well looked after.”

Detectives are appealing for the public's help to reconstruct the movements of a man who was attacked near the Notting Hill Carnival on Monday night. At 11.22pm on Monday, officers responding to the carnival operation were alerted to an unconscious man with a head injury in Queensway, W2. They administered first aid until paramedics arrived. The man, who officers unusually identified as 41-year-old Mussie Imnetu, is in hospital in a critical condition. His family is being supported by specialist forces.

Thibou's two brothers, 24-year-old Sheldon Thibou and 21-year-old Shaeim Thibou, appeared alongside him in court after both were charged with violent disorder and assault on an emergency medical technician.

Sheldon Thibou is also accused of possession of a stun gun.

All three were denied bail.

Omar Wilson, 31, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm to Swedish-born Mussie.

The Met and the CPS will also investigate this allegation.

Wilson was remanded in custody and will appear again at Southwark Crown Court on September 27.

Mussie was visiting the UK on business from Dubai, where he lives and works as a chef.

He had visited the Arts Club, a private members-only club in Mayfair, which says Mussie worked under celebrity chefs such as Gordon Ramsa, Marcus Wareing and Alain Ducasse.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie said: “Mussie's family, friends and colleagues in London, Dubai, Sweden and Eritrea are heartbroken after receiving the worst possible news. Our thoughts are with them and they are being supported by specialist officers.”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “It is heartbreaking that Cher Maximen and Mussie Imnetu have died after being attacked in separate incidents over the bank holiday weekend.”

“My thoughts are with their families and friends at this truly terrible time.

“This violence is shocking, totally unacceptable and a betrayal of the values ​​that the (Notting Hill) Carnival was founded to celebrate.”
