Dixon takes pole ahead of Moreira, Garcia crashes

Moto2™ saw another dramatic qualifying session on Saturday, with Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team) enjoying a fantastic day to storm to a late pole position at the Gran Premio GoPro de Aragon. The Briton improved to a 1'51.636 on his final lap, putting him 0.134s clear of Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team) in P2. It was a great session for the Brazilian, who was just 0.014s clear of Aron Canet (Fantic Racing), who completes the front row for Sunday.

Garcia crashed in Q1 as battle for pole begins

Due to overnight rain, the top 10 remained unchanged in FP2, meaning that several key contenders now had to compete in Q1. This included MT Helmets – MSI’s Sergio Garcia and Ai Ogura, who had a difficult task ahead of them, which was made worse early in qualifying when Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI) crashed at Turn 7, dropping the championship leader out of the top 20. Meanwhile, Zonta Van Den Goorbergh (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP), Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team), Ogura and Filip Salac (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) secured their place in Q2 – making for a dramatic session.

At the start of Q2, Moreira initially took the lead before the second heat began and Canet took provisional pole. The #44's time remained stable until the final lap, where Moreira jumped to P1 before Dixon displaced the #10 from pole position in Aragon.

Strong qualifying for Öncü

Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) finished a fantastic qualifying session in fourth place and is on the second row of the grid with a 1:51.923. The Moto2™ rookie will start ahead of Arbolino, who finished P5 after Q1. The Italian finished the session in sixth place ahead of Albert Arenas (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™).

Sync SpeedUp's Alonso Lopez continued his strong weekend and will start from seventh place. The #21 car will be joined by Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team) and Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo) on the third row, while his teammate Fermin Aldeguer (Sync SpeedUp) will start from 11th. Further back, Ogura was unable to put in a good lap in Q2 and started from 16th place, while his teammate Garcia will start from 28th place.

The action in Aragon is not over yet. Be there on Sunday when the lights go out at 12:15 local time (UTC +2)!
