Wells Fargo employee found dead at her desk, authorities say

A Wells Fargo employee at an Arizona corporate office clocked in for her last shift on a Friday morning. Her body was found at her desk four days later. She died sometime over the weekend, according to Tempe police.

Denise Prudhomme, 60, worked at a Wells Fargo branch in Tempe and was scanned entering the building at 7 a.m. on Aug. 16. There were no further scans of her entering or leaving the building, the police department told CNN in a statement.

On Aug. 20, on-site security reported that a possible dead employee had been found in a cubicle on the building's third floor, authorities said. Prudhomme was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m., according to Tempe police.

In a statement to CNN, Wells Fargo spokesman Ruben Pulido said: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague Denise Prudhomme. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones and we will stay in touch to ensure they are well supported during this difficult time.”

Wells Fargo is reviewing its internal procedures regarding the safety and well-being of its employees following Prudhomme's death, Pulido said, adding that counselors have been made available to affected employees.

Wells Fargo employees anonymously shared their concerns with CNN affiliate KPNX. Some said that although Prudhomme was working from home, he should have been discovered earlier because the building is guarded by 24-hour security.

Some employees reported a foul odor but assumed it was due to faulty plumbing in the building, KPNX said.

According to Wells Fargo, Prudhomme was sitting in a sparsely populated area of the building when she was found.

Wells Fargo addressed concerns raised by some employees that they had not been informed earlier of Prudhomme's death, clarifying that Prudhomme's family had to be notified first.

According to the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner, Prudhomme's cause of death had not been determined Friday.

“The preliminary investigation has revealed no obvious signs of a crime,” a Tempe police spokesman said of the ongoing investigation.
