Imphal, Aug 31 (PTI) – Unidentified miscreants set fire to the residence of Manipur BJP spokesperson Michael Lamjathang in Churachandpur district on Saturday, police said.

The attack also set fire to a car parked on the premises of the house in Peniel village, Tuibong sub-district.

Churachandpur Deputy District Commissioner Dharun Kumar S has written a letter to the District Police Commissioner requesting that an “investigation” be conducted and a report submitted as soon as possible, police added.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the attack on the house “for the third time”.

“The fact that our people (in this case Thadou) are repeatedly targeted, often under the guise of peace rallies, is a deeply disturbing trend,” Singh said in an X-post.

Thadou is one of the largest sub-tribes of the Kukis.

“Such provocations will not be tolerated. We will ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. Action will also be taken against the officials concerned who failed to ensure adequate security despite prior warnings of possible threats,” the Prime Minister added. PTI COR NN
