SEC quarterbacks “excited” about new and improved conference: “It’s going to be great”

One could even argue that the SEC was the best conference in college football even before the realignment and got even better in the offseason.

The conference is already loaded with No. 1 Georgia and No. 5 Alabama and officially added No. 3 Texas and No. 16 Oklahoma earlier this month.

Nine SEC teams are nationally ranked, four of them in the top six. With the addition of the two former Big 12 schools, conference veteran Jalen Milroe is excited about the new competition.

“It's awesome. It brings more competition to the league,” the Alabama quarterback told Fox News Digital. “To have that, to have more relevance to the conference, is going to be awesome. Just to have that experience is going to be awesome, man.”

Added No. 13 LSU gunslinger Garrett Nussmeier: “I think adding those schools just increases the competitiveness and the aura of our conference, which was already the best conference in all of college football. Adding those two makes it even stronger and more competitive.”

Quinn Ewers is an SEC rookie. He recently praised the 12-team playoffs, noting that it was tough to leave out last year's SEC champion. Georgia, which was 42-1 in 43 games, lost the conference title game to Alabama, allowing the Crimson Tide to advance and the Bulldogs to miss out.

College football stars agree on their views on the upcoming 12-team college football playoffs

Assuming all goes according to plan, there will be plenty of SEC teams in the playoffs, and Ewers is excited about his new competition.

“I'm hot. I've always wanted to play in the SEC. You just get that feeling from the outside – there's a saying: 'It means more,'” the Texas quarterback said. “They really care about their football. So to be part of a conference like that is going to be a lot of fun.”

“They have some of the best opponents. It will be great to be part of a conference like this where there is top-notch competition week in and week out. If you want to be the best, you have to play against some of the best. So I'm looking forward to this year.”

Ole Miss (No. 6), Mizzou (No. 11), Tennessee (No. 15) and Texas A&M (No. 20) are the other ranked teams in the conference.
