Sexual harassment: Engineer arrested for sexually harassing woman on train | Chennai News

CHENNAI: A quick cell phone click from a Mrs. Techie by an unknown man near a toilet on board a moving Train helped the state railway police to track down the perpetrator, also a technician, and arrest him on Friday.
Police identified the arrested man as KV Kishore, 25, a native of Kumarapalayam near Bhavani in Namakkal district.
The survivor said she was travelling to Chennai on the night of August 25-26 when the man sexually assaulted her near a toilet in the moving train. The incident took place when the train was near Katpadi railway station. She lodged a complaint in Chennai on August 28 and the next day, the police released the suspect's photograph.
“The Twitter post uploaded on the GRP handle helped track down the suspect,” an official said, adding that an anonymous caller revealed the suspect's name and his company.
A police team immediately went to work, tracked him down and picked him up from a friend's house in the city.
On the advice of a lawyer friend, the survivor went to the government-run Rajiv Gandhi Hospital after getting off the train and asked the hospital staff to examine her for possible sexually transmitted diseases.
She told them that she had been sexually assaulted on the train.
It was the hospital staff who first informed the Chennai Central Railway Police about the incident. On the instructions of GRP Police Commissioner S. Vanitha, special teams were formed and one led by Superintendent I. Eswaran was successful in tracking down the suspect.
Police are currently investigating the engineer for possibly falsifying details in her complaint. “She exaggerated the complaint as dictated by her lawyer friend in order to speed up the police investigation,” said a police officer.
The arrested suspect was remanded in custody after appearing before a magistrate court on Friday.
