SIT receives permission to confront the accused

A court in Thane has accepted the Special Investigation Team's (SIT) request for a screening of the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault of minors case. The screening will be conducted in the presence of the magistrate and the victims will identify the accused.

Background of the case

The case involves the alleged sexual assault of two four-year-olds at their school in Badlapur, Maharashtra. After identifying the accused, the SIT plans to create a psychological profile of the suspects to aid further investigation.

Trustee declared fugitive

On Friday, the SIT declared two trustees of the school as absconding. The Crime Branch and Cyber ​​Police are actively searching for the trustees after the SIT registered a negligence case against them. The trustees have reportedly not been cooperating and a police team could not find them at their residences.

Court comments on gender education

On August 27, the Bombay High Court, following the Badlapur sexual assault case, stressed the need for early education of boys on gender equality. The court, taking cognizance of the incident on its own initiative, highlighted the persistent male dominance and chauvinism in the society. Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan suggested forming a committee to study the issue and recommend guidelines for schools to prevent similar incidents.

FIR against school authorities

On August 23, the SIT filed an FIR against the school authorities for failing to comply with Section 19 of the POCSO Act. This section requires any authority with knowledge of a sexual assault on a minor to report it to the police. The investigation is being led by the deputy director of the Mumbai region, with a multidisciplinary team involved in probing the Badlapur incident.
