Russia: Five dead and 46 injured in Ukrainian attack on Belgorod

MOSCOW: Five people were killed and 46 injured in a Ukrainian attack in the south-western Russian city Belgorod late Friday, the local governor said.
Vyacheslav Gladkov said 37 of the injured, including seven children, were taken to hospital.
A dashboard video posted on social media purporting to demonstrate the attack shows another car being blown up as it drives down the street. Seconds later, an explosion can be seen on the other side of the road. Reuters could not immediately confirm the authenticity of the video.
RussiaThe Investigative Committee announced on its Telegram channel that it had initiated criminal proceedings into the attack in Belgorod.
Authorities also reported that a woman was injured in Ukrainian shelling of the border town of Shebekino in the Belgorod region on Saturday.
Ukraine has carried out frequent attacks on Belgorod and other Russian border regions in recent months. The city was the focal point of the attacks.
Ukraine and Russia say they are not intentionally targeting civilians in the war that began in February 2022 with the deployment of thousands of Russian troops to their smaller neighbor. Moscow called the invasion a “special military operation.”
