Gujarat man accused of theft is attacked and driven around after being handcuffed to the hood of his car – The Week

Godhra, Aug 31 (PTI) – A man was allegedly attacked and driven around by two persons after tying him on the hood of a car in Gujarat's Panchmahal district. The two accused him of robbing a shop, a police official said on Saturday.
The incident occurred on August 29 in Kanku Thambla village in the state's Godhra taluka after the victim was caught while allegedly trying to steal fertilizers from a shop, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (NPO) Patel.
Videos shared on social media by passersby showed the victim being tied to the hood of the car with a rope and driven through a market.
“After the Godhra Taluka police became aware of the incident through the videos, a charge of attempt to steal was filed against the victim Surjan Bhavri (30). An FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was lodged against Ganpatsinh Parmar and Manubhai Charan for alleged false imprisonment, assault, insult, etc,” another official said.
Bavri claimed that he had taken three packets of seeds worth Rs 30 but forgot to pay for them, said the Godhra Taluka police station officer.
“According to Bavri, the shopkeeper returned Rs 470 thinking he had paid Rs 500. However, the accused chased him, accused him of theft and assaulted him. Investigation into the allegations and counter-allegations is underway,” the officer added.
