Six injured in knife attack on bus in Siegen

At least six people were injured in another knife attack in Germany after a woman began attacking people with a knife on a bus on the way to the town festival in Siegen on Friday evening. The suspect, a 32-year-old German national, was reportedly arrested after the attack.

Three of the six victims injured in the attack are in critical condition, Deutsche Welle reported, citing authorities.

According to the report, there were around 40 people on the bus at the time of the incident, which was on its way to a city festival. Meanwhile, the authorities are investigating the motive for the crime.

The police assured that there was no evidence that it was a terrorist attack and appealed to citizens “not to spread false reports” on social networks or other channels.

According to a report in the German newspaper Bild, the attacker may have suffered from psychological problems.

Increasing knee-jerk crime in Germany

The incident occurred a week after three people were killed and eight others seriously injured at a festival in the German city of Solingen. The incident shocked the country and forced the government to announce changes in security and asylum policies. The suspect is a 26-year-old Syrian who was previously due to be deported to Bulgaria. The man has suspected links to the terrorist group Islamic State.

Following the incident, Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government imposed new restrictions on carrying knives in public places and announced cuts to social benefits for some illegal immigrants.

On Tuesday, police in the western town of Moers near Solingen shot dead a man who was suspected of attacking passers-by with knives.
