Father of a victim of a Porsche car accident in Pune

Pune (Maharashtra) [India]August 31 (ANI): Pune Porsche car accident victim's father Om Avadhiya on Friday expressed satisfaction over the Pune court's decision to reject the bail pleas of the six accused involved in the alleged blood sample tampering case.

Speaking to ANI, Avadhiya said, “The lawyer has done his job. The accused's bail has been rejected and we are happy with the way things are going. We hope we get justice, even though it might take some time and might be a bit late.” He also demanded an amendment to the Motor Act to ensure that minors aged 16-18 involved in illegal activities are tried and punished like adults instead of getting lenient treatment due to their age.

“If the Mumbai case had not happened, action would have been taken earlier. We want the court's decision to be taken into account in future. We demand that a law be enshrined in the Motor Act that anyone between the ages of 16 and 18 involved in illegal activities will be treated as an adult and action taken,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday, the juvenile court had postponed the hearing on three applications in the Porsche accident case until September 26.

The defense's requests for the release of the confiscated Porsche and the minor's passport were also postponed.

The motions include the police's request to try the minor driver as an adult and two motions by the defence to release the seized Porsche and the minor driver's passport, a Pune police official said.

The hearing on all three applications was originally scheduled for Wednesday. The police were to file their response to the defence's request for return of the car and passport. At the same time, the defence was to file their response to the Pune police's request to consider the minor accused as a minor in the case.

On Wednesday, the JJB received various assessment reports on the minor and the defense filed its response to the police's motion. The hearing will now take place on September 26, where the JJB will likely review the motions and make a decision.

Particularly noteworthy is the tragic incident on May 19, 2024 in Pune, in which a speeding Porsche, driven by a 17-year-old boy who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, collided with a motorcycle. 24-year-old Anish Awadhiya and his friend Ashwini Koshta were killed.

The underage driver, later identified as Vedant Agarwal, was allegedly served alcohol at a restaurant and a bar despite being a minor. The incident sparked widespread outrage and controversy over leniency towards the accused and the influence of political connections. (ANI)
