Knife fight in Germany: Five injured and three in critical condition | World | News

A woman injured five people with a knife on a bus on the way to a city festival in Germany on Friday evening.

The knife attack occurred at around 7.40 p.m. local time (6.40 p.m. CEST) on Freiengründer Straße in Eiserfeld in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia.

At the time of the incident, at least 40 people, including children, were on the bus from Neunkirchen to Siegen.

The local news agency Siegener Zeitung reported that three of the victims were in critical condition.

Police officers who rushed to the scene following reports of a “mass accident” at around 7.50pm local time (6.40pm BST) arrested a suspect, who the press portal said is a 32-year-old woman.

The Siegener Zeitung reported that the suspect did not resist his arrest.

The crime scene has been cordoned off by officers and the Dortmund police are conducting the investigation into the incident.

According to the police, there is initially no indication that the knife attack was a terrorist incident.

A statement said: “We ask citizens not to spread false information on social networks or other channels and in particular not to make reference to a terrorist attack. The police have no information on this.”

They added that there was no longer any “danger to the public”.

Local district administrator Andreas Müller arrived at the scene of the stabbing and told local media he was “shocked” by the incident, especially because it appeared to have affected people who were partying.
