Faridabad (Haryana) [India]August 30 (ANI): Indian Paralympic shooter Manish Narwal has secured a silver medal in the men's 10m air pistol event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics with a score of 234.9 points, adding another glorious achievement to his sporting career.

His mother Santosh expressed her joy by saying, “I am very happy and proud that my son has won a medal for the country.” Her words reflect the immense pride one feels when seeing a child achieve such great success on the world stage.

Narwal, who has time and again demonstrated his shooting skills on the international stage, once again made India proud with his exceptional performance.

Narwal’s family welcomed winning the silver medal with overwhelming joy and pride.

Narwal's father Dilbagh also expressed his heartfelt feelings and thanked everyone for their support and prayers that contributed to his son's success.

“I wish everyone the best. It is thanks to the prayers of the entire nation that he was able to win a medal. I am very happy and proud,” he said, stressing the importance of the encouragement and hope of millions of Indians.

He started the match well, but in the middle the Indian shooter dropped to sixth place. But he did not give up hope and finished the final in second place. South Korea's Jeongdu Jo won the gold medal with 237.4 points. Meanwhile, China's Chao Yang secured the bronze medal with 214.3 points.

Earlier, Avani Lekhara won gold in the women's 10m air rifle shooting final at the ongoing Paralympics in Paris. Shooter Mona Agarwal won the bronze medal at the same event.

Meanwhile, para-sprinter Preethi Pal won the bronze medal in the women's 100m T35 event.

India started the Paris Paralympics on a high note after winning two medals in the women's 10m air rifle shooting event. From the start of the final, the two Indians were in the top three places and were eyeing the gold medal.

However, it was Avani who secured first place in the women’s 10m air rifle shooting final.

As the Paralympics continue in Paris, India's athletes remain focused and determined, with more competitions planned in the coming days.

This year, India has sent its largest ever Paralympics contingent of 84 athletes across 12 sports, a testament to the country's growing para sports ecosystem. India's participation in the Paris 2024 Paralympics will not only mean a boost in participation numbers but also in medal hopes as the country looks to surpass its previous achievements in Tokyo.

Tokyo 2020 was India's most successful Paralympic Games. The country won 19 medals, including five gold, eight silver and six bronze. (ANI)
