Three-year-old boy dies after tragic incident at Chris Evans' family-friendly festival

A three-year-old boy died at Chris Evans' CarFest.

The radio DJ's event last weekend, featuring live music, cars and food demonstrations, ended in tragedy for a family whose son suffered a “medical incident.”

Just after 11pm on Saturday, a rescue helicopter was called to CarFest in Overton, Hants, to take the boy to hospital where doctors fought to save his life.

Hampshire Police confirmed that the death was being treated as “unexpected”.



The boy was taken to hospital but died tragically shortly afterwards

A spokesman for Hampshire Police said: “Just after 11pm on Saturday 24 August, officers were alerted to a medical incident involving a three-year-old boy at CarFest in Overton. The child was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later. The death is being treated as unexpected and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesman for CarFest, a family-friendly event created by radio DJ Chris Evans to raise money for children's charities, said: “On Saturday 24 August, a medical incident occurred on the festival site. The incident was dealt with by the on-site medical and security teams with support from the NHS. The patient was transported to a hospital off-site.”

The event, which runs from Friday 23 August to Sunday 25 August, raises money for a number of children's charities including BBC Children in Need and the Teenage Cancer Trust. This year's event featured performances from Scouting For Girls and Sam Ryder, as well as live music, cars and the chance to meet TV presenters and take part in food demonstrations.
