A man in his 60s was taken to hospital with injuries to his upper body after being stabbed near the Lionel-Groulx metro station on Thursday morning.

Montreal police received a call about the incident around 10 a.m.

The victim's life is not in danger, police said.

According to initial information, a conflict between the perpetrator and the victim escalated. The perpetrator fled the scene before the police arrived.

Atwater Avenue was closed to traffic between St-Jacques Street and Notre-Dame Street until 2:10 p.m. while investigators attempted to better understand the circumstances of the incident and, with the assistance of the canine unit, locate the suspect.

The intervention resulted in some Société de transport de Montréal bus lines being diverted in the area, but the Lionel-Groulx metro remained in operation.

The STM has sent operations managers to the site to help both customers and traffic, the agency said.
