Spokane police find man after violent attack in Garland

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane police have arrested a man suspected of a violent attack in the Garland District.

Spokane Police responded to the Garland District on August 15 after several people found a man unconscious and gasping for air.

He was quickly taken to hospital and suffered significant head injuries in the attack.

During the investigation, police say the victim was escorted out of a store and then attacked outside. The suspect then ran away when police were called.

Detectives were able to identify the man and track him down on Wednesday.

48-year-old Johnnie Witherspoon was arrested and taken to the Spokane County Jail where he is being held on a charge of first-degree assault.

Witherspoon has an extensive criminal history with previous convictions for first-degree burglary and possession of a controlled substance.

The victim has not been identified and his current condition is unknown.
