A Northeast man whose car police say went out of control and crashed on the Bayfront Connector in Erie on Monday night has died, according to the Erie County Coroner's Office.

Lawrence Norman, 69, died at 3:52 p.m. Tuesday at UPMC Hamot following emergency surgery, coroner Lyell Cook said Thursday afternoon.

Norman had been at UPMC Hamot since Monday evening, when he was taken there following the accident on the Bayfront Connector near McClelland Avenue, which was reported just before 8:30 p.m. Monday.

According to Erie police, Norman was driving a 1998 Pontiac Firebird eastbound on the Bayfront Connector when his vehicle spun out of control, crossed the center lane and collided with a westbound Chevrolet Silverado.

According to Erie police, a 52-year-old female driver and a 76-year-old male passenger were in the Chevrolet. Both were taken to UPMC Hamot, where they were treated and released Monday evening, investigators said.

The accident investigation is not yet complete, an Erie Police accident investigator said Thursday afternoon.
