Pennsylvania man arrested with gun after days on the run from police

OWEGO (WBNG) – A Pennsylvania man is facing several serious crimes after fleeing from police for days.

Owego police announced Thursday the arrest of 30-year-old Nicholas Cron of Athens, Pennsylvania.

Police arrested Cron on four counts of robbery, illegal use of a weapon and burglary.

On August 19, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Owego Police investigated a break-in at an industrial property at 200 West Avenue in the village.

At the scene, police said, Cron was confronted by a person on the property who pulled out a gun and then fled.

Officers found Cron at the intersection of Fox and McMaster Streets around 11:25 a.m., but police said he pointed a firearm at a motorist and stole his car.

Owego police, Tioga County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, Waverly police and Sayre police launched a search for Cron, using drones and sniffer dogs. Police searched for him in Owego, Nichols, Waverly and Pennsylvania. Cron stole “numerous” vehicles and property from victims while police were searching for him, police said.

On August 28, the New York State Violent Felony Warrant Squad found Cron near Montrose Turnpike and Gould Road in Owego. When he saw officers, he attempted to flee in a stolen UTV but crashed it, police said.

After a brief struggle, Owego and state police officers arrested Cron. No one was injured in the ordeal.

Cron was arraigned in Tioga County Central District Court and remanded to the Tioga County Detention Center on bail set at $100,000 cash, $200,000 or $1 million secured bond.

The participating agencies charge additional fees.
