One dead in Spencer crash; speed may be a factor, police say

SPENCER – Speed ​​is a possible factor in a car crash that killed the driver Wednesday night, police said.

The accident occurred around 8:15 p.m. on Greenville Street near Sibley Farm and required the road to be closed for several hours.

When officers arrived at the scene of the accident, the vehicle was on its roof. Spencer's fire department and rescue service were on site.

According to Spencer Police, the 47-year-old driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead soon afterward.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, but preliminary investigations indicate that speed may have played a role, according to Spencer police.

The identity of the victim was not disclosed by authorities.
