Tragic drowning in Raus IAS study group raises safety concerns

New Delhi: A tragedy at Rau's IAS Study Circle has triggered a huge public outcry and raised serious questions about safety standards in educational institutions. Three young aspirants, Tanya Soni (21), Shreya Yadav (25) and Nevin Delvin (29), tragically lost their lives on July 27, 2024, when heavy rains flooded the basement of the coaching centre. This incident has led to demands for stricter regulations for coaching centres, which have been criticised for operating without the necessary safety protocols.

The latest development was that Deputy Chief Judicial Magistrate Nishant Garg rejected a request by Abhishek Gupta, CEO of Raus IAS Study Circle, to enter the building where the incident took place. Gupta wanted to resume classes on the upper floors of the institution as the closure was preventing students from attending classes. The magistrate firmly rejected the request, citing security concerns and the ongoing investigation, and said, “In my view, there are no sufficient grounds to allow entry to the upper floors of the building.”
