New Philadelphia man injured in ‘alcohol-fueled’ attack

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (WOIO) – New Philadelphia police announced the arrest of several people in connection with an alleged DUI attack.

Officers said they responded to a call about an assault at around 4:15 p.m. on August 20.

When police arrived in the 600 block of Fair Avenue, they said they found a man seriously injured after being attacked by several men. Police did not say how many men were involved in the attack.

New Philadelphia detectives began their investigation and identified the identities of all suspects before issuing arrest warrants for them.

According to police, interviews were conducted with those involved and it emerged that they all work for the same energy company.

Investigators found that all those involved had been drinking alcohol at a local bar on the day of the attack.

According to police, the perpetrators went to the victim's apartment several hours later and knocked on the door until he opened it.

“When the victim opened the door, he was immediately assaulted and then dragged back into his residence by these individuals. The victim continued to be assaulted while being dragged into a room in his home. This violent attack continued for a short period of time,” a police press release said.

After attacking the man, the perpetrators fled in two different trucks, according to officials.

According to official information, one of the people involved in the attack knew the victim.

The victim was treated at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital for multiple facial fractures, abrasions to his face and head and a laceration to his ear, police said. He is expected to require surgery in the next few weeks.

Police confirmed that the victim's wife witnessed the attack but was unharmed and called police after the group fled.
