STX Entertainment backs new “Bigfoot” horror film

EXCLUSIVE: STX Entertainment and Citizen Skull Productions are behind the new creature feature, .

In this latest addition to the Bigfoot myth, a beast terrorizes a modern housing development in a small mountain town. The attacks leave the town's new sheriff fighting for her daughter's life.

Pic announced by director John Asher (Diamonds) and screenwriting debutant Jordan Reid.

Shooting for the film is scheduled for this fall in the remote Crystal Mountains of Washington State. Casting is in process.

Asher’s previous directorial work includes the indie films A love like this, a boy named Poand Miramax's Diamondsand the television series OneTreeHill.

Bigfoot is the filmmaker's first project in the horror genre, a genre to which he has familial ties as his grandfather EM Asher worked as an associate producer on legendary monster movies. Dracula (1931) and Frankenstein (1931).

Reid comes to screenwriting after briefly appearing in series including HE And It's always sunny in PhiladelphiaShe then founded the women's lifestyle website Ramshackle Glam.

“Since the publication of The Great White SharkMoviegoers are afraid of water. As soon as they see Bigfoot, “You will never go into the forest again,” Asher explained.

“When I read the script, I was completely blown away. This film is incredibly terrifying. It will captivate audiences,” added project producer Mark Myers, president of Citizen Skull Productions.

STX Entertainment is the LA-based mini-studio that rose to prominence quickly but ran into trouble a few years ago, resulting in dozens of job losses and bankruptcies. The studio remains in business and has several films in development and production, including the upcoming sequel to the Gerard Butler starrer. GreenlandCitizen Skull Productions specializes in low-budget genre films and also has a management department.

Asher is represented by Jason Bellitto of Citizen Skull Management and attorney Eric Suddleson of Felker Toczek. Reid is also represented by Suddleson.
