Teenager found guilty of murdering 15-year-old Holly Newton | UK news

A teenager has been found guilty of murdering a 15-year-old girl in the street after following her for 45 minutes.

Holly Newton suffered 36 knife wounds in an attack in the Priestpopple area of ​​Hexham, Northumberland, in January last year.

A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named because of his age, admitted manslaughter but denied murder, claiming he had a blank mind that day and only intended to take his own life.

A 16-year-old boy who was with Holly at the time of the attack tried to help her and was also stabbed.

The 17-year-old, who was also found guilty of wounding with intent at Newcastle Crown Court, claimed he couldn’t remember stabbing Holly, or the boy who came to her aid.

Holly was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after the attack but could not be saved.

The 16-year-old boy, who was also hospitalized, suffered injuries to his shoulder, arm and thigh that required surgery.

Holly's mother was so concerned that day that she contacted police about the defendant, whom her daughter knew. It was agreed that Holly would not be allowed to leave school when the teenager was outside, the jury was told.

He followed Holly through the city centre for about 45 minutes as she visited shops with friends before attacking her.

Jurors heard that just hours before the stabbing, Holly had told a friend that the teenager was “basically stalking” her.

As Holly and the 16-year-old boy she was with entered a pizza restaurant, the defendant was waiting outside at a bus stop and asked her if he could speak to her.

In just over a minute, the defendant stabbed Holly 36 times, stabbing her 12 times, punching her 19 times and inflicting five “defensive wounds,” jurors heard.

His verdict will be announced on October 31 during a two-day hearing in the same court.
