Man dead after shooting in Coachella district

A department spokesperson reported that officers were dispatched to the intersection of Calle Rojo and Calle Camacho after several gunshots were heard in the area around 10:30 p.m. The intersection is in a residential neighborhood one block from Cesar Chavez Street, southwest of downtown.

When officers arrived, they found a bleeding man in the middle of the road. Paramedics pronounced the man, whose identity was not publicly released by the medical examiner, dead at the scene. The Sheriff's Department is investigating the man's death as a homicide but has not yet made any arrests.
