Man pleads guilty to child abuse and is sentenced to 40 years in prison in Cobb County

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – A man was sentenced to 40 years in prison in Cobb County after pleading guilty to sexual abuse of a child, the Cobb County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday.

On August 16, 54-year-old Wolford Kilgore was found guilty on multiple counts – including aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, two counts of aggravated sexual assault and child molestation. He will spend the first 15 years in prison without parole and the final 25 years on probation.

In addition, Kilgore is prohibited from having any contact with the victim and must register as a sex offender.

In May 2020, the victim told authorities that Kilgore touched and abused her at his Kennesaw home for a year and a half. Kilgore admitted to the crimes at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and made similar statements, prosecutors said.

“I want to commend the victim's courage in coming forward and the hard work of our team and law enforcement partners in bringing this case to a successful conclusion,” Cobb County District Attorney Flynn D. Broady Jr. said in a statement.
