Calhoun man jailed for ATV crash that killed passenger

Thomas James Butler, 24, of Calhoun, was sentenced to prison for involuntary manslaughter after a passenger was killed in an ATV accident.

According to reports, the accident occurred on May 17.th on Boone Ford Road. Butler was driving a Polaris RZR when it crashed. Officials said when they arrived at the scene, a passenger had died from his injuries.

Butler was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The Georgia State Patrol was called to investigate the accident after alcohol was detected at the scene.

Due to his injuries, Butler could not be questioned, but a search warrant was issued to take blood samples for analysis.

Butler has since recovered and was taken into custody on Tuesday, August 27.th.

He is charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol, open container, reckless driving, driving on laned roads and driving on the right side of the road.
