A motorcyclist has died after he went off the road in a wooded area in St. John's, police said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a collision at 7:05 p.m. NT on Wednesday in the area of Main Road in the Goulds neighborhood.

According to a press release on Thursday, a 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“RNC accident analysts are working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death,” the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said.

Colonel James Cadigan told CBC News he spoke to an investigator who said the man may have been dead 24 hours before police were aware of his presence.

As part of their investigation, police are asking for video footage from the area, such as surveillance cameras and dashboard cameras, that could show what happened to the motorcyclist.
